TIME MANAGEMENT

RANDY PAUSCH
TIME MANAGEMENT

Success is measured by the amount of time you get to do things for fun. The time you spend doing the things that you like and the time you spend with your family is more valuable than money, because money can be earned at any moment, but the time you waste doesn’t come back.

First of all, to be effective in the management of time you have to decide what things are the most important, and what things have to be done urgently. Randy Pausch suggests that you have to do first the things that are important, and let the unimportant things for later, because many people waste their lives doing what has to be done urgently and never do things that are significant.

on the other hand, other key to save time is organisation. He suggests that one should organize every document in the house in one place, and arrange them in alphabetical order, he says that that idea has helped him a lot in his marriage. Another thing is to have the inbox of the email clear. Not to accumulate more than 20 messages, and instead, saving every message in different folders.

In conclusion, those ideas are very productive and are available for everyone. An example of this is the speakerphone, the hand free set for the cell phone, and keeping something to do in your desk, so when someone calls you, you can hang up knowing that you could use the time you waste on the phone in something more productive. This ideas work for everybody and are very easy to apply, but, as Randy said, you have to train yourself to this, and it will save you lots of time.

BEING ETHICAL WHEN ADVERTISING, WHAT IS THE LIMIT?

ANALYTICAL ESSAY

In Australia there is no limitation for the contents of the advertisement. The only limit is given by the products that can or can’t be sold. For example, therapeutic goods can only be sold if they are permitted and certified by the therapeutic act, a law that regulates this kind of products.

In the first place, advertisers sometimes exceed this limit, and try to sell something using wrong information on their ads. Ingenuous people can be forced to buy things that are useless or that are not as good as the advertiser promised. This must be prohibited by the government in any country, because it is a form of robbing people.

Besides, there also should be a limit in the content of the ads when it comes to sex or violence. Anything can be seen by adults, who have their own opinion and are responsible for their acts. But for children, this should be regulated. This is very hard to accomplish, but it’s not impossible if parents take charge of it. Recently, Australian government created a law that stated that web pages should vary their contents and have a different “harmless” version for schools.

I think, as long as people are respected, there should be no limitation for advertisers to develop their creativity, after all, advertisement is a form of art and should that is something that should be taken in consideration.

VALUES AND BELIEFS, HOW SIMILAR OR DIFFERENT ARE THEY?

ANALYTICAL ESSAY

Some of the values in Australia are honesty, freedom and progress. We could say that these values aren’t shared by all religions, but if we take a good look, we will arrive to the conclusion that this values are not different from those that religions support. While the freedom of cult is guaranteed by the Australian government, this doesn’t mean that people have the right to do whatever they think is right. People have to follow certain principles that will allow them to live in peace, and that is something that every religion should look for.

Firstly, Australians are peaceful people who don’t like to solve their problems with violence. This is something that most religions share. People in Australia is allowed to have freedom of speech, this means that they can say whatever they want, as long as they don’t cross certain limits. This is the principle of tolerance, which has been taught by many religious leaders.

Secondly, Australia has a laic government and has no official religion. The government treats every citizen in the same way, not making any distinction for the religion of the person. If we think that religions should try to bring people together, we can say that this Australian value coincides with the essence of many religions.

To conclude, we must say that while people in Australia have the right to be different and to believe in different things, the values they share unite them. While people look for similarities instead of differences among them, values and beliefs are not very different.

ROAD RAGE IN COLOMBIA

Road rage in Colombia is a very big problem, many people gets killed by angry woman drivers, it seems like everyday there are more accidents, and this are due to the anger that many women feel when they drive, it is so strong that they make fatal mistakes.
In first place, they won’t have a good reaction in case of an emergency, even though many women drive very well, when it comes to deal with accidents on the streets, they seem to lose their concentration and ability to focus.
On the other hand, They are so focused on many things that they will forget about driving, we can’t blame only the women, men also drive terrible and become very angry when they’re driving, the problem is that when you drive you need to forget about everything else and concentrate, but when you are driving you are so intimidated and frustrated that all your problems come out.
In conclusion, it is important that women learn to control their emotions; we know this isn’t easy, because women are very emotional and delicate. If women don’t learn how to relax when they drive, accidents will continue forever.

AUSTRALIAN CRIMINAL VALUES

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY

We can’t say that criminals have values, because a person who commits any crime is against the law and society. But criminals also have beliefs and convictions, and that may be considered some sort of value. Many Australians are in jail outside Australia. The most of them for drug trafficking. We don’t know if these people have values. Maybe they do, and maybe they believe that trafficking drugs is not against their values.

Firstly, One of the Australians that is arrested outside Australia is Michael Dennis Rohan, he is famous because he attempted to set fire to the Al-Aqsa mosque, located atop the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. He believed that he was sent by God to destroy the mosqe so the jews could rebuild their temple. This may be one of the cases when a criminal has values. In this case, he was defending his religion.

But, people think that he was crazy, and he did what he did because of his mental condition. Maybe every criminal who thinks that has values is simply crazy. What they think that is right is not right for others, so their values are distorted. Criminals with values suffer some kind of social distortion.

In conclusion, values are not against society. Anyone who threads society has no real values. Maybe all this Australians who have been arrested trafficking drugs have their own moral system, but from my point of view their values are inverted.

VALUES WHEN EDUCATING FOR SUCCESS

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY

To have success, one must be prepared to be competitive in every aspect of life, and to do this, one must educate oneself, be a good professional, and have social skills that help us in our way to succes.

In the first place, in Australia, where people are very competitive, due to the fact that there are professionals from all around the world that fight for improve their position in society and their lifestyle.

On the other hand, there are some values that are favorable for those who look for success, for example: knowledge about the economic and social situation of the country, the region and the whole world. Also, being able to communicate ones ideas is very helpful. and one more thing is to have a positive attitude towards coworkers, because they are essential in our way.

I think, there are more values that can be added to the list, but some of them need to be discussed, because in the race for success, sometimes values can interfere instead of being helpful, we must remember that not every successful person is a person of values. There also must be a discussion about the meaning of success, because this can vary from person to person.

OSTENTATIOUS LIFESTYLES IN AUSTRALIA

ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY

Our modern world allows that some people carry a life of wealth and style, beyond the imagination of poor people. This is possible thanks to the opportunities that skilled workers are given in some countries. for example, in Australia, there are certain places that are exclusively for rich wealthy people, who are looking for the safety and commodity that they deserve.

Firstly, in many regions of Australia, like south Australia, Victoria and Tasmania among others, immigrants who want to improve their lifestyle are offered places to live where they can enjoy their richness and live safely and according to their income.

Secondly, it is not strange that people become so rich in countries like Australia, when even in countries like ours, there are people who enjoy a life of pleasure that seems surreal. It isn’t bad to have a lot of money, but it is not good to have people starving on the streets, dying of hunger and needing money.

In conclusion, like in every other country, in Australia some people are being more benefited and empowered than others, and since this is an industrialized developed country, the ones that are considered rich there are very rich. There is no problem about this, but money can sometimes distort the mentality of people, and lead them to live a lifestyle full of pleasure and banality but without real spiritual meaning.

AUSTRALIAN VALUES

DESCRIPTIVE ESSAY

People in Australia are very friendly, very nice people who are tolerant and respectful of another cultures and beliefs. It is very common for tourists to make new friends everyday, not only Australians, but people from all around the world. The reason for this is that there are a lot of immigrants in Australia, and the people who live there are in the majority immigrants or their descendants.

In the first place, migration in Australia has made it a multicultural country; religions in Australia are Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and many more. In 1901, when the country was recognized as a federation, it claimed to be Christian, but now it declares itself as religiously diverse.

On the other hand, australians are very honest people, and they give a high value to honesty. They also appreciate hard work and think of it as a national feature. This has made of Australia a very prosperous country, and a place where it is safe to live. They consider themselves happy (95%). On all sides of politics they prefer freedom over equality. 98% of them are proud of being Australians. They are very moderate and tolerant.

Finally, australians consider family as the most important institution in the community, 84% of the people still consider marriage fundamental. Nevertheless, people are very liberal in Australia and reject extremist conservative, reactionary forms of government.

THE PEACE WALK

This is a descriptive paragraph about the peace walk against Las FARC.
It was realized during a class
Last fourth of February in Colombia a walk took place to protest against kidnapping and to demand that the guerrillas free the people they have kidnapped; people went out dressing white shirts and waving the Colombian flag, they screamed "No more kidnapping", "No more lies", "No more war", "No more FARC". It was a great event, and everybody agreed that it was good to protest against FARC. The only bad thing is that no matter how many people protest against war, it will always continue, because the ones who have the power to end this terrible war, don’t listen to the people. That is a bad thing. At least, Colombian people are starting to be less indifferent and are acting to manifest against kidnapping and war.
