BEING ETHICAL WHEN ADVERTISING, WHAT IS THE LIMIT?

ANALYTICAL ESSAY

In Australia there is no limitation for the contents of the advertisement. The only limit is given by the products that can or can’t be sold. For example, therapeutic goods can only be sold if they are permitted and certified by the therapeutic act, a law that regulates this kind of products.

In the first place, advertisers sometimes exceed this limit, and try to sell something using wrong information on their ads. Ingenuous people can be forced to buy things that are useless or that are not as good as the advertiser promised. This must be prohibited by the government in any country, because it is a form of robbing people.

Besides, there also should be a limit in the content of the ads when it comes to sex or violence. Anything can be seen by adults, who have their own opinion and are responsible for their acts. But for children, this should be regulated. This is very hard to accomplish, but it’s not impossible if parents take charge of it. Recently, Australian government created a law that stated that web pages should vary their contents and have a different “harmless” version for schools.

I think, as long as people are respected, there should be no limitation for advertisers to develop their creativity, after all, advertisement is a form of art and should that is something that should be taken in consideration.

VALUES AND BELIEFS, HOW SIMILAR OR DIFFERENT ARE THEY?

ANALYTICAL ESSAY

Some of the values in Australia are honesty, freedom and progress. We could say that these values aren’t shared by all religions, but if we take a good look, we will arrive to the conclusion that this values are not different from those that religions support. While the freedom of cult is guaranteed by the Australian government, this doesn’t mean that people have the right to do whatever they think is right. People have to follow certain principles that will allow them to live in peace, and that is something that every religion should look for.

Firstly, Australians are peaceful people who don’t like to solve their problems with violence. This is something that most religions share. People in Australia is allowed to have freedom of speech, this means that they can say whatever they want, as long as they don’t cross certain limits. This is the principle of tolerance, which has been taught by many religious leaders.

Secondly, Australia has a laic government and has no official religion. The government treats every citizen in the same way, not making any distinction for the religion of the person. If we think that religions should try to bring people together, we can say that this Australian value coincides with the essence of many religions.

To conclude, we must say that while people in Australia have the right to be different and to believe in different things, the values they share unite them. While people look for similarities instead of differences among them, values and beliefs are not very different.
